FROM OUR STATUTES…
The habit of the Franciscan Sisters of Mary shall consist of the following:
Postulants: (Jewelry and cosmetics, including hair dye, are not permitted.)
• Navy blue jumper, below the knee
• white blouse with collar, long or short sleeved
• black or navy shoes
• black, navy, or tan sandals in summer
• simple crucifix (not the crucifix of the order)
Novices:
• Navy blue jumper, below the knee
• white blouse with collar, long or short sleeved
• black or navy shoes
• black, navy, or tan sandals in summer
• simple crucifix (not the crucifix of the order)
• simple, white veil
Temporary Professed:
• Navy blue jumper, below the knee
• Navy blue dress, with or without navy blue jacket
• white blouse with collar, long or short sleeved
• the crucifix of the order
• black or navy shoes
• black, navy, or tan sandals in summer
• navy veil for official functions; white veil at her discretion
Final Professed:
• Navy blue jumper, below the knee
• Navy blue dress, with or without navy blue jacket
• white blouse with collar, long or short sleeved
• the crucifix of the order
• black or navy shoes
• black, navy, or tan sandals in summer
• navy veil for official functions; white veil at her discretion
• plain gold or silver ring, worn on the left ring finger
As long as modesty is observed, sisters may wear athletic clothing when exercising and
swimwear when swimming. The veil is not to be worn at such times.
